Prince Albert pet store wins provincial customer service award

Corinne Penner says receiving the 2022 ABEX Service Award is just very humbling and exciting.

The annual Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce business awards were handed out in Saskatoon Saturday night, and Pet Planet was presented with the Service Award, sponsored by KPMG LLP.

“We strive every day to do our very best that a customer does not walk away without what they need,” Corinne said. She noted that includes making sure customers not only have the right food, but also maybe the right allergy medication, or even just help carrying their bags to the car.

Pet Planet has been open in Prince Albert for 11 years, but run by the Penner’s for the past seven. Lee Penner explained all the credit for the award goes to their staff and amazing customers.

“Every staff member we have has played a role in delivering the level of customer service and getting us to where we are today,” he said.

Lee went on to explain how they’ve invested a lot of money in customer service through training staff, which includes both monthly testing and regular courses to attend. They also attend trade shows across North America.

“We are always learning and listening from our customers and trends in the industry,” Lee said.

The owners also sit on the committee for all 50 Pet Planet stores in Canada and get to help select and review new products coming in.

Other finalists in the service category were Atlas Hotel, Lakeview Fine Foods, Abco Elevator, and Manila Cleaning Services. Lee Penner thanked all the other nominees for their outstanding service.
