Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan had a strong October when it came to new jobs.

According to Statistics Canada’s monthly labour report, the region added 900 positions. That was the second highest among the five provincial regions.

Regina-Moose Mountain had the best month, adding around 1,000 jobs. Swift Current-Moose Jaw saw an increase of around 500 positions, while Saskatoon-Biggar and Yorkton-Melville had their numbers drop.

The health care and social assistance sector in Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan saw the biggest increase, adding around 900 workers. Since June, the sector has filled around 2,500 jobs.

The forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil, and gas sector also had a strong October, increasing by 600 positions.

The wholesale and retail trade and the information, culture, and recreation sectors each lost approximately 300 jobs, tied for the worst among all sectors.

Meanwhile, the region’s unemployment rate dropped slightly from 4.4 per cent to 4.3 per cent.

Regina-Moose Mountain is the only provincial region to have a higher rate.

Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate is lower than the country’s, 5.2 per cent, and Saskatchewan’s, 4.6 per cent.
