Building excitement brick by brick at the P.A. Science Centre

Nov 1, 2022 | 5:00 PM

Hundreds of Lego enthusiasts came to Gateway Mall for the first event hosted by the Prince Albert Science Centre this past weekend.

The “Brick Lab” took over the centre on Saturday and Sunday with members of the Saskatchewan Lego Users Group (SLUG) showing off their block creations. The weekend also gave kids (and kids at heart) a chance to build their own race cars.

Vice-Chair of the Science Centre Sandra Williams told paNOW they were pleased with the weekend turnout.

“We had close to 800 people walk through our doors,” she said. “It was tremendous support for our first event.”

Williams noted those who came by were very impressed with the buildings and vehicles created by members of SLUG which included the Taj Mahal, a T.I.E. Fighter, and the Prince Albert Historical Museum.

They were also excited to get their hands on some Lego blocks and do some building of their own.

“A lot of hands-on creations and people were excited about doing that.”

Now that the Brick Lab has wrapped up, the Science Centre is looking forward to its next event called STEAM Lab which stands for Science, Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics.

“We’re going to have another opportunity for people to come in and create and build using a lot of different items that perhaps we don’t find in our houses and our schools,” said Williams. “Just a day of exploring, creating, building and learning.”

That event is set to go on Nov. 19 at the Prince Albert Science Centre inside Gateway Mall.
