Ex-Raider Guhle dishes on first goal, tough matchups in NHL
It’s a dream just about every young Canadian has at some point: scoring your first NHL goal. On Thursday, October 27, former Prince Albert Raider Kaiden Guhle turned that dream into reality, and he did it with the NHL’s most storied franchise.
In a game against the Buffalo Sabres, Guhle snuck in from the point almost all the way to the bottom of the right circle and called for a pass. When it came from his defence partner David Savard, Guhle wound up and unleashed a bomb of a shot that Raiders fans would instantly recognize.
“It was exciting, it’s always nice to get your first goal and take a little bit of weight off of your shoulders,” Guhle said. “It was awesome to get that and it was nice to get a win for the team too, that was a big win to start the road trip.”
Even if the points weren’t coming, Guhle’s value to the Montreal Canadiens is still evident from the matchups he’s drawing. The former first-round pick has been playing against some of the most famous names in the NHL night in and night out, from Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs on opening night to Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin as the season has progressed.
