Prince Albert judo athletes receive provincial awards

Judo Saskatchewan’s annual awards banquet was held In Moose Jaw this past weekend, and several Prince Albert area athletes received recognition.

Jannessa Keays, who competes out of the Saskatoon YMCA Judo Club, and Corban Taylor from Judo Saskatchewan, were among those recognized.

Keays was awarded both U21 Female Athlete of the Year and Senior Female Athlete of the year awards.

Highlight events for her this past year include a gold medal at the Quebec Open and a bronze medal at the Pan American / Oceania Junior Championship held in Peru.

Taylor was recognized as a runner-up in the U18 Male Athlete of the Year and came out on top of the U21 Male Athlete of the Year.

Taylor competed in the Pacific International Tournament this past April, picking up a bronze.

In May, at the Canadian Open National Judo Championships held in Montreal, Taylor earned the silver medal in his division, and also went on to compete in the U21 division, earning a bronze medal.

The club of the year award went to the Regina YMCA.
