Raiders take new spin on old Remembrance Day jersey tradition

The Prince Albert Raiders are continuing their long tradition of wearing special commemorative jerseys on Remembrance Day for a home game this Nov. 11 against the Edmonton Oil Kings – but with an interesting new take. They are actually going to be wearing three separate editions of the same jersey at the same time.

This year’s jersey will feature three different crests designed to illustrate the vehicles from the three different elements of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Canadian Army will be represented by the M4A2 variant Sherman tank called Bomb. Royal Canadian Navy jersey will feature the HMCS Saskatchewan, and the Royal Canadian Air Force jersey will feature the de Havilland DH. 98 Mosquito. A third of the Raiders will wear each of the designs.

Taylor Vause, who played in the WHL with Swift Current Broncos and Prince George Cougars before a professional career in Europe, designed the jerseys.

The Raiders will also be using special edition game pucks. Both the pucks and jerseys will be available by auction starting on Nov. 7. Proceeds from both the jersey and puck sales will be donated to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 2 in Prince Albert.
