P.A. students discuss future plans at job fair

Hundreds of students in the Prince Albert area got the chance to learn more about possible career paths they can take once they’re done high school.

The Opening Doors to Tomorrow Career and Job Fair took place at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre on Wednesday where around 60 exhibits were set up featuring different careers.

Some of the more popular exhibits included flight training and emergency medical services.

“The paramedic one was cool, getting to go inside [the ambulance],” Darby Pocha said.

The Grade 10 student ended up touring the exhibition centre with her two friends Kiera Hayes and Surrie McDonald.

While Pocha is considering studying optometry, her friends are still unsure.

“I know that I want to go to university but I’m not sure what I want to do yet,” Hayes said.

McDonald said she also plans to attend university, but hasn’t selected a major.

Also touring the exhibits were friends and Grade 9 students Dylan Mackie and Aidan Tournier.

Mackie noted he too isn’t sure what he wants to do, adding he was hoping to “see some opportunities” at the fair. Tournier, on the other hand, has an interest in potentially becoming a chiropractor.

“It’s not set but I’m kind of looking into it, maybe I’ll do it,” he said.

This was the first time this event has been held in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
