In the early 1990s, Denis Pederson was a star for the Prince Albert Raiders who played four seasons with the team and went on to a 19-season career in the professional ranks. Now another member of the Pederson family looks set to join the Raiders’ ranks.

The Raiders announced yesterday they signed defenceman Doogan Pederson to a standard player agreement. The 2006-born, left-handed blue liner has spent time in British Columbia’s U18 AAA league with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds and got into his first junior game with the BCHL’s Chilliwack Chiefs.

Pederson went undrafted in the 2021 prospects draft despite a strong season with Fraser Valley’s U17 squad, but he was invited to the Raiders’ main camp this past September. When he took to the ice at the Art Hauser Centre, his father made his return to the building.

“About a month after the draft, the Raiders reached out and listed him,” the older Pederson said. “I got a phone call from the team and it was a bit of a surprise but it was awesome at the same time knowing that he’s going to come to camp and be in Prince Albert.”
