Bantam River Riders complete unbeaten regular season

Oct 24, 2022 | 4:00 PM

The Prince Albert River Riders made history on Sunday at Prime Minister’s Park.

The Bantam River Riders beat the Clavet Cougars 24-20, to complete their first-ever undefeated regular season.

The perfect record puts the team in the semi-finals of the Kinsmen Football League Championship where they will once again face the Cougars.

“It feels really good,” Head Coach Joey Hemsworth said. “We’ve never done it before so it’s a cool accomplishment to go 6-0. Very proud of all the kids for achieving that.”

The semifinal game is set for Saturday in Saskatoon and Hemsworth said they need to be on top of their game once again.

When talking about the season that was undefeated, Hemsworth said he was proud of the work ethic and how the team showed up physically and mentally at each practice. He added the success this season came from both sides of the field.

“Defence has played really good all year, probably one of the main reasons why we’re 6-0,” he said. “Offensively we’ve had some very good points in the season. (We’ve) been lucky to have a well-rounded team this year.”

The peewee River Riders were also in action on Sunday as they lost a hard-fought defensive battle to Clavet 7-0.
