Bears win on buzzer beater, outlast late push by Gold Wings

WEYBURN, SK – The Prince Albert Northern Bears have finally managed to get the monkey off their backs Saturday afternoon after topping the Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings 3-2 at Crescent Point Place.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The win was anything but boring. PA led 2-0 going into the third when tides quickly shifted in favour of the Wings, which snowballed into Weyburn tying the game up with less than three minutes to go. But the hockey gods were with the Bears this afternoon. With just three seconds left in the game, Kaebree Young found the back of the net for her second of the game and to help lift PA over Weyburn.

Young’s two goal performance was actually the first goals in a Bears uniform. Alongside her was Raelyn Vezeau who also scored her first goal in the black and orange, while Jacquelyne Chief, Tristyn Endicott, Taelyr Ballard, and Kelsey Ledoux each netted assists in the game.

Abigail Manz and Kaydance Ray were the two goal scorers for the Gold Wings on Saturday, with Camryn Fuessel and Kiah Shields both potting helpers.

Bears netminder Brooke Archer made 24 saves in the win, helping PA improve to 1-5-0-0 on the campaign.

Hailey Sibbald made 25 saves and took the loss for the Gold Wings as Weyburn falls to 0-4-0-1 on the year.

The Bears will look to have a repeat performance Sunday afternoon where they’ll rematch the Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings at 1pm.
