A Prince Albert woman, found deceased last weekend near Maymont, will be laid to rest this weekend.

The funeral for 24-year-old Wendy Bird will take place Saturday afternoon at H.O.P. Youth Place (formerly Par Place), just west of the City. Bird’s aunt Annette Lehouillier told paNOW her niece was a free spirit.

“She was always happy, joking around with family, she was positive and friendly and she always kept in contact with her family and checked up on them,” she said.

On the morning of Oct. 16, Bird, a mother of two young boys, ages one and six, was found along Highway 16 near the village of Maymont. RCMP have confirmed her death as suspicious in nature. Lehouillier said the family has not been told anything more, adding she knew her niece had some big plans.

“She was actually wanting to go to school in B.C. to become a youth worker,” Lehouillier said, adding Bird’s death has represented a huge loss for the entire family.

“Se was a really confident person and she really loved her kids.”

Meanwhile, a woman identifying herself as a cousin of the victim told paNOW Wendy was a great person, with a big heart.

“She will be missed so much. She was a different kinda soul .. there was no one like her,” she said. “That girl was solid kept her word and her family was everything to her. She would do anything for them,” Wendy Lita Bird said.

RCMP continue to investigate and have been asking for information with respect to Bird’s whereabouts between Oct. 14 and the morning of Oct. 16.

A person who talked to Bird just days prior to her death indicated through social media, she was on her way to Edmonton and had expressed fear someone was after her.

Anyone who may have information related to Wendy Bird’s death is asked to reach out to police or Crime Stoppers.
