MELFORT, Sask. – 4-H Canada and Farm Credit Canada (FCC) will once again support clubs at the local level.

The FCC 4-H Club Fund is available to all clubs, districts, and regions across Canada.

The funds can go towards developing existing programs, covering the costs associated with local events, supporting volunteers, or purchasing various resource materials.

The program supports the development of responsible youth leaders across Canada.

A total of $100,000 is available in grants of up to $500 per club, district, or region across Canada.

Applications will be accepted until Oct.31.

Western grain elevator levels have hit 85 per cent as farmers hope this year’s harvest will make up for last year’s poor crop.

Western Grain Elevator Association executive director Wade Sobkowich said those high levels are leading to fears of grain delivery delays.

He said railways are bringing railcars back online from being in storage last season, but low staffing levels are not keeping up with demand for this year’s harvest.

Sobkowich said C-P Rail indicated it’s prepared to meet the transportation needs of grain customers this year to move a grain crop estimated at 75 million tonnes, up from 49 million last year.

The Manitoba government has created a new website to support food and agri-product entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations.

Agriculture Minister Derek Johnson said new Business Pathways will provide support through all stages of the business cycle.

“Whether you have a new food product idea, you see an unmet demand for local food, or you want to grow a food business, the website can help you build your future in food,” Johnson said. “This comprehensive resource will support new and existing businesses to effectively enter and compete in the domestic and global marketplaces.”

The new website also incorporates resources, programs, and services provided by business service providers and industry partners.
