RCMP issue warning after increases in robberies, property crimes, fires

The community of Creighton – located northeast of Prince Albert close to the Manitoba border – is seeing a rise in crime, and police are asking the public to keep an eye open and report anything suspicious.

Robbery, property crime and fires have all become more common since the start of the month. According to the Creighton RCMP, since Oct. 1, the community has seen 15 break-and-enters, two robberies, five auto thefts – and three more attempted but unsuccessful auto thefts – as well as an arson case. In addition, there have been three break-and-enters which saw firearms stolen, RCMP said.

According to police, most of the incidents happened over the past four days.

On Oct. 14, another fire in nearby Denare Beach was reported to the Creighton RCMP detachment. Inside the building, firefighters located a dead person who has not yet been identified, RCMP said.

So far, nobody has been charged in any of the incidents, but RCMP said officers believe some of the crimes were connected.

“We want the public to be informed of the recent increased calls for service in our detachment area,” Sgt. Kelly Dinsdale, the Creighton RCMP detachment commander, said in a statement.

“We are asking members of the public to ensure their residences, outbuildings and vehicles are locked. We are actively investigating these incidents and to assist with our investigation, we are asking the public to please report all suspicious persons or activity to police immediately.”
