SASKATOON, SK – The regular season for the St. Mary Marauders came to an end on Thursday night and they finished it off with an exciting win, narrowly escaping the Tommy Douglas Tigers 22-21 at SMF Field.

A defense-heavy first half led to the Marauders leading 7-0 at the half. The exact opposite happened in the second where an offensive explosion by Tommy Douglas saw the Tigers score seven points in the third and an additional fourteen in the fourth. St. Mary managed to keep their cool and score a safety in the fourth to defeat Tommy Douglas by one point.

Marauder running backs Corban Taylor and Lukas Robin each helped lift the blue and white to the win. Taylor clocked 92 rushing yards with two touchdowns on ten carries while Robin put up 108 rushing yards with one touchdown.

St. Mary quarterback Liam Martin managed 58 passing yards and one interception on six-of-nine passing attempts while adding three rushing yards.

Tigers quarterback Dominic Larose managed 94 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on seven of sixteen attempts while adding 17 rushing yards on four carries.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

St. Mary got the party started early in the first quarter with Robin getting the blue and white on the board with a 25-yard rushing touchdown. The Marauders converted on the extra point to make it a 7-0 ball game.

St. Mary would extend the lead to 14-0 early in the third with Taylor rushing for his first touchdown of the quarter.

The Tigers would finally break the ice late in the quarter thanks to an insane run. Enemalie Attah found a hole in St. Mary’s defense and rushed for a 75-yard TD to cut the lead in half.

But the Marauders would continue to add insurance before the end of the frame with Taylor scoring his second TD of the quarter. The score was 21-7 entering the final quarter.

The Tigers would give the Marauders a run for their money in the fourth, putting up 14-points in the first five minutes of the quarter to tie it at 21 apiece.

In the dying minutes, St. Mary punted the ball and scored a safety worth one point. As the clock winded down, that one point would secure the victory for the Marauders escaping the grasp of the Tommy Douglas Tigers, 22-21.

Since St. Mary finished fifth in the SSSAD 6A Football Standings, the Marauders guaranteed themselves a Division 1 playoff berth and will either play Centennial, Carlton, or Holy Cross in the first round which is slated for Oct. 20 at 7:15pm at SMF Field in Saskatoon.
