Bear euthanized after entering P.A. city limits
Prince Albert police had to euthanize a black bear due to public safety concerns in a residential neighbourhood.
According to a media release, the animal was within city limits around midnight Monday. It was first located in the 1300 block of Second Avenue West and after hopping a number of sheds and fences, would end up in Aileen Abramyk’s backyard. She recalled for paNOW a feeling of being startled at the sight of half a dozen police vehicles outside her house.
“And then I heard shots fired and I swear I hit the floor so fast because I didn’t know what was going on,” she said.
Moments later, Abramyk realized there was in fact a bear in her backyard. She explained it appeared the bear had first climbed over her garage and was in the tree when it was shot.
