Allan named captain as Raiders unveil leadership group

In recent seasons, the Prince Albert Raiders have had a lot of leaders on their blue line. It’s no surprise that they went back to the defensive group to find their newest captain, and two of the four members of their leadership group.

The team announced this afternoon that Nolan Allan would become the 46th captain in franchise history. Allan, a 19-year-old defenceman who just returned to the team from the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, has played 146 career WHL games, all with the Raiders.

Allan was named the team’s MVP at last season’s awards banquet after a breakout season in which he posted 41 points in 65 games, all while contributing hits, blocked shots, and defensive responsibility. He was a first-round pick of the Blackhawks in 2021.

In addition to Allan, the Raiders named forwards Evan Herman and Carson Latimer and defenceman Landon Kosior as the three alternates. Kosior is the longest-serving of the group, with a one-game lead on Herman in that department as he’s played 156 games with the Raiders.

Kosior broke out offensively as well last season, posting 18 goals and 45 points in all 68 games. Like Allan, he also brings shot-blocking and a healthy dose of the physical game to the table. So far this season, he’s posted three points in three games played.

Herman has played 155 games as a member of the Raiders, including all 68 games last season. His 28 goals and 47 points were both career highs, and he brought sheer determination as well. His finest stretch of hockey in the season came late as the Raiders made one last (ultimately successful) push for the playoffs. He’s started off this season with four assists in five games.

Latimer, a draft pick of the Ottawa Senators, was acquired in early December last season in exchange for Kaiden Guhle, and quickly boosted the team’s offence. He potted 12 goals and 32 points in 44 games with the Raiders. So far this season he has two assists in three games.

The next game for the Raiders will come on home ice against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday at 7:00. It would be Allan’s first game of the season as he was returned by the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. Catch that game on 900 CKBI.
