“It’s something you dream of”: Ritchie nets first career WHL goal, Raiders fall 6-2

PRINCE ALBERT, SK- Ryder Ritchie potted his first WHL career goal on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough for the Prince Albert Raiders as the Winnipeg ICE escaped PA 6-2 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The loss is the third consecutive for the Raiders to begin the season.

“Our battle level wasn’t anywhere where it needed to be against a team like this,” said head coach Jeff Truitt. “In order to compete every night, you gotta get in the dirty areas, you gotta win the battles and get yourself possession. But when we had possession, we seemed to turn the puck over an awful lot and against a team like this, things can counter real quick.”

Along with Ritchie, Niall Crocker also lit the lamp for PA while Vladislav Shilo, Evan Herman and Landon Kosior each had helpers in the contest.

For Winnipeg, Aiden Oring also managed to score his first career WHL goal and net his first assist while Connor McClennon and Steven Arp each scored twice and Connor Geekie added another. Connor Dale led the assist category for the ICE with three Zach Benson had two and Arp, Ben Zloty, Owen Pederson, Omen Harmacy, and Ty Nash each had one.

Raiders netminder Tikhon Chaika made 25 stops in the loss as PA falls to 0-2-1-0 on the campaign.

ICE goalie Daniel Hauser stopped 26 of 28 shots. Winnipeg improves to 2-0-0-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Winnipeg needed only 44 seconds to get on the board as McClennon tapped home a pass from Benson to put the ICE up early.

A few minutes and we were back to square one. Ritchie’s intended cross ice pass to Kosior was deflected in by an ICE defender to tie it.

The ICE would restore their lead midway through the frame with Arp scoring his first of the season on a quick rush by Winnipeg as the ICE led after one.

Much of the same in the second as both the Raiders and ICE doubled what they had after the first. McClennon and Arp both found the back of the net in the second for Winnipeg while Crocker tapped home a beauty for PA as the Raiders trailed 4-2 after forty.

The ICE added two more in the third defeating the Raiders 6-2.

The Raiders are back on the road for their next game where they’ll head south to Moose Jaw to face the Warriors on Friday night.
