P.A. powerlifter hoists up gold medal at Westerns

Marking his biggest competition since COVID restrictions began to ease, Prince Albert’s Cameron Preymack made the most of his opportunity at the Western Canadian powerlifting championships.

Competing in the 74 kilogram weight class, the 27-year-old finished first amongst 13 competitors.

“I’m just happy that competitions are back into the swing of things. We had a huge break because of COVID, but now everything is opening back up and everyone is allowed to start competing again so it’s super awesome,” he said.

The event this past weekend was held at the Delta Hotel in Calgary. Preymack’s final results were as follows: 245 kilogram squat (540 pounds), 150 kilogram bench press (330 pounds) and 280 kilogram deadlift (617 pounds).

“I’m dealing with a shoulder injury right now so I didn’t lift as much as I could but was still happy with the numbers I put up,” Preymack said.

Up next is the national championship in February.
