Around 50 people of all ages gathered at the Alfred Jenkins Field House in Prince Albert Sunday afternoon for the 42nd annual Terry Fox Run.

This is the first in-person Terry Fox Run in over two years as the last two runs were held virtually because of the pandemic.

Since it’s the first in-person run since 2019, Terry Fox foundation board member Shelley Mitchell said that it’s exciting to see the event be held in person again.

“It’s amazing to see all people who come and support this cause,” she said. “My daughter and I have been participating in the Terry Fox walk for five, six years but this year is our first walk being on the board.”

Since 1980, Canadians have raised over $850 million for cancer research.

So far this year, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $15,000 in Prince Albert, about the same as the virtual event last year.

“Our goal this year is $17,000,” she said. “The people who come out and raise money for Terry Fox have been doing it for years and years so even though it was virtual last year, we still had support from people.”

Over the years, Fox has helped hundreds of thousands of people with cancer overcome the disease to live long and healthy lives. And as a mother of a cancer survivor, Mitchell said that it’s important to donate because the Terry Fox Foundation can help many more people in the years to come.

“I think it’s important we continue to give back because if it weren’t for Terry Fox, who knows where my child or other cancer survivors would be today.”
