Multiple inmates at Sask. Penitentiary test positive for COVID

Five inmates at Saskatchewan Penitentiary, just outside of Prince Albert, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said in a press release there’s a chance this number could grow as more people get tested.

To help limit the spread of the virus, testing is being offered to inmates while the staff is required to take rapid tests. Employees are also being provided with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as medical masks, respirators, and face shields.

In-person visits have been temporarily suspended at the medium-security unit. Inmates are reportedly being given other options to contact family members and support networks, though CSC didn’t clarify what these options were.
