Changes this year for Sask. Rivers Distance Learning Centre

The Distance Learning Centre for Sask. Rivers Public School Division (SRPSD) will have a new principal as they head into another year.

“I am excited about joining the DLC and working with the existing team to build upon the work and success that staff and students achieved in the school’s first two years,” new Principal Jenna Cross said.

Before joining the Distance Learning Centre, Cross served as a Vice-Principal at Wesmor Public High School and at King George Public School. She also taught at Carlton High School and has been with the SRPSD since 2009.

The Distance Learning Centre offers online classes for students in Grades 7-12, including classes for adult learners.

“Teachers at the DLC take pride in the connections they are able to build with students and their families,” Cross said. “We want our students to be successful and achieve their goals – whether that’s earning enough credits to graduate, gaining a new skill, preparing for post-secondary education or something else.”

For the first time, the centre is offering dual credit courses that allow a student to earn high school credits and university credits. The dual credit courses are Indigenous Studies 30/Indigenous Studies 100, ELA B30/English 100 and Calculus 30/Math 110. The dual credit courses are being offered in partnership with the University of Regina.

Students can also transfer the credits they receive for these courses to other universities, such as the University of Saskatchewan. Other new classes this year include Visual Art 10, Creative Writing 20 and Studio Art 30.
