October inquest in Sask Pen inmate death

Sep 1, 2022 | 4:00 PM

An inquest into the death of an inmate in the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in 2020 will happen next month in Prince Albert.

Kevin Wolbaum, 55, was found unresponsive in his cell on January 28 of that year.

He was taken to Victoria Hospital but pronounced dead two days later.

Wolbaum had been serving a sentence of three years, nine months and 19 days for robbery and disguise with intent that started in December 2017.

By law, an inquest is required if a person died while in custody unless the coroner determines that the death was natural and unpreventable.

The inquest starts at 10 am on October 3rd and is scheduled to go until October 7th and will be held at the Coronet Hotel.

The presiding coroner, Blaine Beaven, may make changes if they are needed.
