New season at E.A. Rawlinson Centre blends music and mystery

A chorus of cheers filled the auditorium at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre Wednesday night as the facility’s new season was officially announced.

The 2022-2023 season will include such musical acts as rock legend Randy Bachman (Oct. 30); CCMA award-winning artist Aaron Goodvin (Jan. 22), and an ABBA tribute band. However, the new season will also feature a burlesque group and a Cinderella ballet. General Manager Roxanne Dicke stressed the importance of representing the community.

“It’s also important for us to pursue our mandate which is to engage audiences with new and diverse acts as well,” she explained

Some other attractions that are guaranteed to peak peoples’ interests include Illusionist Darcy Oake on Oct. 26; Northern Cree performs on Nov. 26; and later this fall is the Anchors Up Tour, featuring award-winning artists from the east coast. Dicke said she’s also excited to have local talent LJ Tyson perform with his band on Feb. 3.

“They’re making a big name for themselves outside of our area and so it’s wonderful to be able to represent that kind of talent in our building,” she said

Noting her own personal interest to see the Cheesecake Burlesque at the end of January, Dicke explained there will also be a workshop held prior for people who may want to try it out for themselves.

Season tickets are now on sale and are 30 per cent off. There are also options for people who may just want to see six, eight, 10 or even shows. Dicke acknowledged she is concerned about the PST increase, applied to concerts and special events, that takes effect on Oct. 1

“It’s difficult because you know we are coming out of a time where people were spending a little less and I hate to see us add that on but I do know it was not our decision,” she said.

Paulette Montgrand is a volunteer at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre and was also there for the launch party

“And the best thing about volunteering here is seeing all the happy faces afterwards. Everybody is smiling and you can see their happy faces now,” she said.
