Sask. Rivers Public School Division names new Superintendent

Aug 24, 2022 | 12:38 PM

There is a new face at Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division (SRPSD) and she is proud to be a part of the team and be an example for all staff and students in the area.

The division recently named Garette Tebay its new Superintendent, having started the position on August 1.

Garette comes to the division after teaching and being a principal in Stoney Plain, AB working for the Parkland School Division where she stayed for five years. Before that, she worked in Fort McMurray where she grew up.

After moving to Prince Albert on July 22, Tebay started her new role on August 1, and she’s already looking forward to the journey ahead.

“My dreams are to get the know the community and to start wrapping my head around the stories of the community and being able to bring those stories together in a way to move our system forward ro meet the needs of our community in the best way possible and start seeing continued student success.”

She added that by doing this, it helps assure students they’re getting the best from their schools and parents can be assured their children are taken care of.

A big part of her role will be community engagement and she said she’s excited to work with different school councils and to work with the division’s Students For Change committee, working with high school students to hear their needs.

Now that we know what Tebay is looking forward, is there anything she’s hesitant about going into the new role? She admitted as an introvert, it’ll be hard to break out and initially take on her responsibilities. Regardless, she’s ready for the challenge.

“A lot of the work will be doing is a little outside of my comfort zone,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the growth but at the same time, it’s growth, it’s different for me.”

Outside of the classroom, she feels her, and her family will enjoy their time in Prince Albert as she sees many similarities with her hometown.

“P.A. reminds me a lot of Fort McMurray back in the nineties. It’s about the same size and kind of the same level of potential as a community. I have the same level of excitement coming here.”

The SRPSD starts the 2022/23 school year on Sept 1, with the first day of classes.

Welcome Superintendent Garette Tebay to Prince Albert and the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division.
