Four years of jail for man who killed Skylar Smith in Fond du Lac

Jacob Pacquette will spend four years in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of manslaughter in the death of Skylar Smith in Fond du Lac two years ago.

Along with the jail sentence, Pacquette was given a 10-year weapons prohibition.

Pacquette was originally charged with second degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence in November 2021.

His victim, Skylar Smith (who also went by the last name Fern) died after a dispute at a residence in Fond du Lac on April 18, 2020.

Smith was pronounced dead at hospital and a second victim, a 19-year-old woman was injured.

Police found Pacquette at another home where he had fled to following the fight and arrested him without incident.

According to Smith’s family, he was an athletic, a humble and kind person and a lover of hockey.

Community members paid tribute to him with hockey sticks and jerseys after his body was taken back to the community for his funeral.
