SLO-PITCH PROVINCIALS

A weekend of success for four P.A. slo-pitch teams

It was all about the number four at the provincial championships for Canadian Slo-Pitch this past weekend.

All four Prince Albert teams that participated in Saskatoon made the final in their respective divisions.

Among those teams was Bat Intentions who not only claimed the title in their group but did so for the fourth consecutive year. Bat Intentions had to knock out another local team, the P.A. Astros to claim the championship.

Elsewhere, the Prince Albert Aces finished second in the Women’s rec division while the P.A. Outlaws also claimed second in the Men’s rec division.

“Very competitive, very high-talent,” said player/manager with Bat Intentions Blair Hamilton when talking about the tournament. “The four-peat was really the cherry on top.”

About 16 teams competed in the men’s division while eight teams squared off for the women.

Hamilton said one of the biggest challenges was playing all their games over the weekend in strong heat.

“The heat was definitely a major factor.”

He added one of the best parts of the tournament was playing the other teams and reconnecting with players they’ve gotten to know through the year.

Hamilton said not only does the success of the teams mean a lot for them, but for the City of Prince Albert.

“We’re coming up on the map slowly. In the slo-pitch scene and the softball scene, P.A. is making some noise.”

With the win, Bat Intentions qualify for Nationals August 4-7, 2023 in Leduc, AB.
