Province names supervisors of Christian schools, including PA

Regent Academy in Prince Albert will have Randy Fox as an oversight administrator starting this week.

Regent, along with two schools in Saskatoon, is being monitored by the province following allegations of abuse at one of the Saskatoon schools.

“The administrators’ priorities will be to direct the operations of the schools to ensure student safety and well-being, and to provide a positive learning environment for students,” said the province in a news release today.

Regent Academy, which operates out of the basement of Plaza 88, is named in the group because the current principal, Duff Friesen, used to work at the Christian Centre Academy in Saskatoon decades ago, when the abuse is alleged to have happened.

He is named, along with 20 other people, in a class action lawsuit filed by two of the former students.

The province said the newly appointed administrators will also review who is on staff to make sure the appropriate people will continue to teach and provide other services as schools generally start operating at the start of September.

Each of the three administrators is a “highly respected former superintendent or division director,” said the province.

Along with Fox, Mike Walter will work with Legacy Christian Academy and Dave Derksen at Grace Christian School.

They will also be reviewing the school policies and procedures, as well as reviewing historical documentation in order to make recommendations for any changes that might be appropriate or necessary.

All three will be giving the Ministry of Education reports at least once per month to make sure the schools are teaching Saskatchewan curricula.

The administrators will be in place for the next several months and are expected to work closely with the Ministry of Education.
