P.A.’s Dr. Java’s Coffee House under new management as family starts new chapter

A family is stepping away from a well-known Prince Albert business.

Over 11 years ago, Chad and Brandy Mogg opened the doors to Dr. Java’s Coffee House.

Earlier this week, they officially handed the keys over to the business’s new owners.

Brandy told paNOW the pair wanted to try different careers with Chad working for Ecolab while she studies to become a teacher.

“I just have my internship left to do this September and after that, I’ll be in an elementary school.”

The COVID-19 pandemic played a big part in their decision, but not for the reason some might think of. During the multiple lockdowns, the pair started thinking about what they could do if the virus forced them to close down. This never happened but the idea of new careers stuck around.

The Kids

The Mogg’s have three children: Ava, Brooklyn, and soon-to-be one-year-old Hudson.

Their two daughters have grown up around Dr. Java’s Coffee House, so it’s just as big a change to them as their parents.

“Brooklyn celebrated her first birthday at the coffee shop four days after we opened which would have meant that Ava was only like two to three years old,” said Brandy.

The good news for the kids is their parents are expected to have a lot more time to spend with them as they’ll no longer be on call to fix any problem at the shop.

Moving Forward

Brandy and Chad are confident that the business will continue to be a staple in the community.

The pair weren’t looking to step away so quickly, but the perfect opportunity for a change of ownership just fell into their laps.

“They (the new owners) love Dr. Javas. They’re customers, they come in, they love the food, they love the atmosphere, and they have a lot of experience in the industry, so they made us feel really comfortable.”

Meanwhile, the family has no plans to leave P.A.
