‘I can’t wait for more’: P.A.’s Swystun wins gold at World Junior Lacrosse Championships

Team Canada is on top of the junior lacrosse world and one Prince Albert player is taking it all in.

Bauer Swystun and the national team took gold on Sunday after beating Haudenosaunee 16-9 at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.

“As soon as that clock went to double zero and the game was done and all the gloves were in the air and the boys were all smiles on their faces,” said Swystun recalling the final seconds of the gold medal game. “Finally seeing that all of our hard work the past ten days paid off. It was just a great moment that I didn’t think I’d see so soon. Overall, probably one of the most exciting experiences I’ve been through.”

In the round-robin portion of the tournament, Swystun had one goal while also putting up two assists in the playoffs.

He said scoring that goal was one of the highlights of the tournament for him.

“Having all my hometown people saying that they were able to watch it, that’s also a blessing too just to be able to represent Prince Albert and put one on the scoreboard.”

However, he noted his greatest highlight from the event was how much he grew and learned as a player.

“That coaching staff and working with all those high calibre players, that was a highlight in itself.”

Now that the championships are over, Swystun is already embarking on the next chapter of his life and career in lacrosse. He’s heading over to Tusculum University, in Tennessee to play NCAA Division 2 Lacrosse after spending last year at West Coast University in Ontario, Calif.

“That’s what’s next for me (then) come back in the spring and have another successful season in Saskatoon and then hopefully be able to represent my country and my city and my province on the world stage next year,” he said.

While talking to paNOW, Swystun said he is still in awe over what he calls one of the best moments of his life.

“This moment, the whole past ten days, this whole week, it was just an overall great experience, and I can’t wait for more to come.”
