Rain no match for Second Annual Weldon Ag Showcase

Aug 3, 2022 | 1:00 PM

To call the Second Annual Weldon Ag Showcase and Family Fun Day a success would be an understatement.

Despite there being rain and the cancellation of the favourite bouncy castles, many people came out this past Saturday to enjoy the festivities.

This included a beef cattle show, a petting zoo, and more.

There was also a pie auction with one dessert, made by Ava Rose Cheesecakes, selling for $335 which will be donated to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“Her sister said to her ‘I think you need to charge more for your cheesecakes,’” said Colleen Hansen, show coordinator.

There were fewer guests around, mainly due to the weather, compared to last year’s event. However, more people signed up to take part in the festivities with over 80 heads of cattle taking part in the beef cattle show.

Hansen said the success of the first two shows is making them consider holding it again next year.

“It’s pretty unique to have an event like that in such a small little town and people who aren’t even involved with the cattle and agriculture can still come and have a great day.”
