Caddy auction raises $14K for mental health awareness

A couple of communities near Prince Albert have found a creative way to raise funds and awareness for mental health.

On Friday, a golf tournament will take place at Wakaw Lake Regional Park and Golf Course and while that event will bring some fun to those playing, it’s what happened prior to the tournament that’s making a splash.

Lizenne Gaudet helped organize the tournament and talked about a caddie auction they did to raise funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association in Saskatoon.

“What a great way to raise money to auction them off, they would be our personal caddies for the nine-hole tournament. All proceeds are going to go to the Canadian Mental Health Association in Saskatoon.”

Gaudet said from that auction, that they raised over $14,000. She added it means a lot to the communities of Domremy and Bellevue.

“Our community has been affected a lot by mental health and I wanted to do something that would raise more awareness.”

The tournament, which starts around noon will feature different games and activities at each hole.

When organizing the tournament, Gaudette said she had hoped to have one sponsor per hole.

“I ended up with 22 sponsors, so I more than doubled my sponsors. On some holes, I have three sponsors. It’s really amazing. (They) sponsored a hole for $100 and out of that $100, 50 per cent would towards mental health and 50 per cent would go towards a prize for that hole.”

Gaudette said she’s extremely thankful to the sponsors as well as the volunteers and caddies who helped make this tournament possible.
