Jul 27, 2022 | 10:50 AM

A public inquest into the death of a man at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre will be held starting next month.

The inquest has been scheduled for Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, 2022, at the Coronet Hotel in Prince Albert.

On December 27, 2019, Robert McAdam, 31, was found unresponsive in his cell at the correctional centre and taken to hospital to Victoria Hospital where he later died.

A funeral for the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation man was held on January 1, 2020.

In September, 2018, McAdam was charged with numerous offences following a break in at a home in Prince Albert. Those charges included break and enter, assault, attempted theft of a motor vehicle and breach of court order.

The first day of the inquest is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Subsequent start times will be determined by the presiding coroner.

The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths. The purpose of this inquest is to help determine the medical cause and manner of death. The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
