Man alleged to have brought imitation gun to Cumberland House band office building

A man accused of having an imitation handgun in his possession while at the Cumberland House Cree Nation band office building will have a couple months to wait for his next court appearance.

Julian Thomas, 31, made his first court appearance last Thursday and the matter was adjourned to Sept. 12.

On July 13, at approximately 4:45 p.m., RCMP received a report of an armed male at a band office building.

Officers immediately responded and ensured all occupants of the office were safe. The male was located at a nearby residence shortly after and arrested.

Officers located and seized an imitation handgun during the subsequent investigation. A resident in the community confirmed for paNOW the incident happened in the main band office building.

Thomas, who is from Cumberland House, is facing several charges including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, committing a common nuisance, and failure to comply with a probation order.
