Cricket bats were flying at first P.A. tournament

If you’re a fan of overs, wickets, and beamers then this past weekend might have been your cup of tea.

If you’re unfamiliar with any of the above terms, then the Prince Albert Cricket Association can help you out.

The local club held its first-ever tournament on the cricket grounds at Red Wing School.

The association, which started in 2016 has been slowly growing for the past few years, but this past Sunday was a major milestone for the players.

“It was excellent,” said Mohib Mohammed with the club who added the first ball was bowled by one of the Cricket Association’s biggest supporters, Malcolm Jenkins.

“He has been supporting us for a while now, ever since we started in 2016. He is one of our top supporters.”

Four teams within Prince Albert participated in the tournament with Team Mandeep 8 coming in first and the Pythons finishing second.

Prince Albert Cricket players currently participate in a league in Saskatoon with its next game on the Red Wing pitch on Sunday.

Now that the tournament is done, Mohammed said the big goal for the club is to recruit more players.

“Without proper marketing, not many people know there is cricket going on in P.A. That’s why we wanted to have this tournament; to bring awareness and reach out to the new demographic, reach out to new people.”

Mohammed added this includes students and newcomers to the city.
