Community barbecue back in P.A. in support of YWCA

People in Prince Albert are getting a chance to buy a hamburger and help a local non-profit.

For the third year in a row, Mr. Mikes and YWCA Prince Albert are hosting a community barbecue on July 18.

It originally started as a way to get the community together during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, it’s now turning into an annual event to help raise funds for the YWCA.

Davinder Singh, general manager of P.A.’s Mr. Mikes Steakhouse, told paNOW he’s expecting to take a loss financially during the barbecue, although it doesn’t bother him because it’s for an important cause.

“It is okay. I’m doing something good for the community and people doing charity should never think about how much I’m losing, how much I’m making,” he said.

After raising close to $2,000 in 2021, the hope is to at least hit $3,000 this year. The goal is still to double last year’s total.

The success of the first two barbecues has also drawn interest from others in the community.

“I’ve been approached by other charities and they’re asking if we can do a charity barbecue … with them,” Singh said.

People can buy a burger for $6 or a burger and a drink for $7. The barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mr. Mikes’ parking lot.
