Rivier Academy back on the market

Jul 15, 2022 | 3:00 PM

The potential sale of the Rivier Academy to the Métis Nation — Saskatchewan (MN—S) has fallen through, and the building is back on the market.

Listed for $2.9 million, the location includes over five acres of land, 170,000 square feet of floor space and a swimming pool and gymnasium.

However, it was not what the Métis Nation was looking for, they said in an emailed statement.

“While we were excited by the possibilities that a facility like 1405 Bishop Pascal Place might provide, unfortunately, at this time, it is not the right fit. We continue exploring ways to expand our capacity for delivering services to our citizens in Prince Albert and our communities across Saskatchewan,” read the statement.

MN—S applied in April of this year for a development permit as part of the conditions of the sale between themselves and the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, who own the complex and used to run it as a school.

If the sale had proceeded, the MN—S would have used the space for things like a child care centre, a health clinic, office, private school and assembly area and employed about 50 people.

As far a what they will do now, that is undecided.

“Our Métis Nation–Saskatchewan government is always looking for opportunities to build capacity across the province and improve our communities’ well-being,” said the statement.
