U15AA Royals looking to be crowned at Provincials

Jul 13, 2022 | 12:00 PM

The U15AA Prince Albert Royals are set to head south for Provincials this weekend.

The team will head to Saskatoon for the chance to be crowned the best U15 team in baseball, but it won’t be an easy feat.

With eight other teams competing for the title, head coach Graham McGregor said that he’s already got a plan for the weekend.

“A lot of it centres around pitching,” he said. “A player can only pitch a certain amount before his pitch count gets too high, so we have a plan for that. We game plan for our game as opposed to what they’re going to bring.”

The Royals play a total of three round-robin games, with two of those games being against the Moose Jaw Canucks and Saskatoon Athletics, two teams that they haven’t seen yet this year.

Their third game, however, is a contest versus the Meadow Lake Sox, a team that both McGregor and one of his players, Logan Edwards, say is a squad that they are all too familiar with.

“We’ve seen Meadow Lake a number of times this season,” said McGregor. “We know what they bring and we know that it’s going to be a challenge, but we’ll bring our best foot forward and see what happens.”

“We’ve had some pretty good, close games with (Meadow Lake) and I think we can do good in this,” said Edwards.

The Royals begin their quest for the title on Friday with the tournament running until Sunday.
