A Prince Albert football player returned home after a successful weekend at the U18 Women’s National Championships.

Raelynn Sande was part of Team Sask. which won silver at the competition. Saskatchewan lost the final game to Team Alberta.

Team Saskatchewan soared to the Gold Medal game after four wins in the round-robin. They beat New Brunswick 32-0 and Manitoba by the same score. They blew away Ontario 44-7 and narrowly won over Alberta 14-12.

However, Alberta would win the grudge match to win the championship, 36-12.

Despite the loss, Sande said the experience was a memorable one.

“I made a lot of friendships and bonds that I never would have made if I didn’t go. It was just a lot of fun playing all the other teams.”

Sande was coached by fellow Prince Albert resident Ashley Viklund who will soon be heading to Finland for the World Women’s Football Championship.

“She’s a really good coach and she knows what she’s doing,” said Sande. It’s awesome being coached by her.”

Sande, a former River Rider will play for the St. Mary Marauders this coming season and said she wants to try out for the U18 team again next year.
