MELFORT, Sask. – The federal government is committing over $133,000 to the bison industry to help producers create more market opportunities.

The Canadian Bison Association executive director Terry Kremeniuk said this will assist in their efforts to expand and grow market access.

“This investment is very important in assisting the bison industry in rebuilding European markets as well as supporting strategies to ensure growth in exports to the United States,” Kremeniuk said. “A significant portion of the increase in consumer awareness and exports globally can be attributed to the ongoing funding received through the AgriMarketing Program.”

The announcement was made at the International Bison Convention in Saskatoon, Sask.

Corteva Agriscience has introduced two new canola and corn seed treatments to be available in Canada for the 2023 growing season.

LumiGEN seed treatment will have four modes of action.

The seed treatment for canola will provide improved control for disease but specifically targeted to blackleg.

For corn growers new LumiGEN seed treatment corn package introduces Lumialza nematicide and Lumiscend Pro fungicide seed treatment. Lumialza is a biological seed treatment and the first corn nematicide seed treatment launched in Canada.

Lumialza provides more than 80 days of root protection against sting, needle lance, stubby-root, root-knot, dagger, and lesion nematodes.

The new LumiGEN seed treatment packages are available exclusively by Brevant seeds and Pioneer brand genetics.

Saskatchewan RCMP is investigating incidents where irrigation equipment has been tampered with.

Several farmers in the Lucky Lake area reported persons have been on their properties shutting off the pivot points on their irrigation systems.

The concern is not about property or crop damage, but the irrigation systems are run on 480 volts of three-phase power and someone could be seriously injured.
