4-H supports charity through annual auction

MELFORT, Sask. – The Melfort Agricultural Society Regional 4-H Show and Sale held a successful event this week while it also supported an important charity.

Seven 4-H clubs had 110 members show 200 head of cattle July 10 and 11.

The Grand Champion Female shown by Morgan Sutter of the Kelvington 4-H Club was crowned on Sunday. Anna Wielgosz of the Meskanaw-Ethelton 4-H Beef Club had the Reserve Champion Female.

Hayden Elliot-Nelson of the Meskanaw-Ethelton club has the Grand Champion Steer which sold for $4.50 per pound and was purchased by Charlie and Treena Porter of Townside Enterprises in Kinistino.

Carter Wielgosz of the Meskanaw-Ethelton club had Reserve Grand Champion Steer which sold for $5.00 per pound and was purchased by Farm World Equipment.

The Monday evening auction saw 73 steers sold for an average price of $4.17 per pound.

The 2022 Charity Steer weighing 1,306 pounds raised over $30,000 with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish Saskatchewan.

The winner of the Charity Steer was G Bar V Farms.

Beatty, Meskanaw-Ethelton, Three Lakes, Bar-West, Moose Range, Tisdale, and Kelvington 4-H Beef Clubs took part this year.
