Jul 12, 2022 | 11:37 AM

A 25-year-old man from Montreal Lake Cree Nation allegedly assaulted two Prince Albert police officers, after being confronted about a break-and-enter.

Kane Charles made his first appearance in court on Monday, and his matters were to be spoken to again on Tuesday.

The charges from Saturday’s incident include resisting arrest, causing mischief, damaging a vehicle, and breaching court-ordered probation. Just before 4:30 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on River St. East and 5 Ave.

A resident reported suspicious activity involving a man kicking a vehicle before entering a nearby home. Police responded and found the suspect on the back steps of the residence.

According to a statement from police, as officers were placing the man under arrest, he became combative and tried to grab an officer’s Conductive Energy Weapon (CEW). A brief struggle ensued until officers were able to arrest the man with the help of a nearby resident.

There were no injuries to the police officers or the man arrested.
