RCMP confirms suspect among two men dead after Langham incident

Saskatchewan RCMP has revealed a 38-year-old man was the victim of an apparent murder-suicide in Langham on Friday.

The suspect, Justin Heimbecker, also was confirmed dead.

In an update issued Monday, Mounties said the situation started when the Warman RCMP got a call about a person uttering threats. As officers responded, they got reports of a shooting outside a residence on Kyle Street in Langham and a house fire on the same street.

RCMP said officers found the 38-year-old man dead outside a house on that street. Mounties then issued a dangerous person alert due to what they called “the unknown whereabouts and unknown mode of transportation of the suspect.”

Shortly after 9 a.m., RCMP issued an update and identified the suspect in the shooting as Heimbecker.

“At that time, his burning house was inaccessible for safety reasons and his whereabouts were still unknown,” the RCMP said in Monday’s update.

Officers continued searching for Heimbecker, but without success. After the house fire was extinguished, Mounties entered the house and found Heimbecker’s body.

At noon, RCMP cancelled the dangerous person alert and told the public there was no longer a risk to their safety.

On Monday, the RCMP said it wouldn’t be releasing the name of the 38-year-old man “as there will be no court process associated with this investigation.” The Mounties did say the man was from Langham and while he and Heimbecker knew each other, they weren’t related.

The media release said the RCMP Major Crimes Unit is still looking into the incident, but investigators aren’t looking for any other suspects. The house fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
