Man arrested after breaking into RCMP detachment

Jul 4, 2022 | 8:00 PM

A man arrested over the weekend at Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, may in the eyes of many, have chosen one of the strangest places to break into.

At approximately 7:40 a.m on Saturday., officers were in the community conducting investigations and patrols, when they received a report of a break-in at the RCMP detachment.

After gaining entry through an exterior door, the suspect then encountered the on-duty guard in the cell block, who then immediately called for backup.

Before the other officers could arrive, the suspect left the detachment on foot.

Meadow Lake RCMP Police Dog Services were then called in to assist and quickly located the suspect.

No one was injured as a result of the incident and the damages to the detachment were limited to the exterior door.

Russell Knife, 41, faces over half a dozen charges including breaking and entering, theft under $5000, mischief, and two counts of failing to comply with a previous release order.

He appeared Monday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court and will appear again on Tuesday.
