SRPSD online program celebrates first in-person graduation

It was a monumental day for the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division’s Distance Learning Centre (DLC) this past week.

On Friday, the school division’s online schooling program held its first in-person graduation ceremony for its 15 graduating students and their families.

Last year, the program held a virtual ceremony where students took part from home.

As part of the celebration, the graduates shared plans for their futures which included post-secondary programs in computer science, cooking, health care, and business management among other choices.

“Our graduates should be proud of what they have achieved,” said Carrie Grant-Walker, principal of DLC. “They have worked hard to reach this milestone and have so much to look forward to.

The SRPSD created the DLC in the 2020-21 school year to serve students and families who were hesitant about in-person learning during the pandemic.

“We’ve come so far since then,” said Grant-Walker. “Students choose online learning for a variety of reasons, and our staff works hard to meet their needs.”

The future is bright for DLC as the program will be offering more classes for the 2022-23 school year. They’re also working on delivering dual credit courses, which grant students the option of earning both a high school and university credit.
