Six students chosen for the G3 Grow Beyond Scholarship

MELFORT, Sask. — Six young Canadians are beginning their post-secondary education with a significant financial boost.

The recipients of the G3 Grow Beyond Scholarship submitted a video essay describing their vision for the future of agriculture. All the candidates’ videos were posted online, and public voting formed part of the overall score in the selection process.

The scholarship supports studies in any discipline. This year’s winners included students enrolling in biochemical engineering and commerce, and proposed innovations in agriculture including genetically modified crops and water management.

The G3 Grow Beyond Scholarship winners are Janna Bruggencate and Warren Napier of Alberta, Mariah Maurer and Emily Sebastian from Saskatchewan, and Kiya Busby from Ontario and Gia Liu of British Columbia.

Their winning videos can be seen here.

G3 CEO Don Chapman said he was impressed by the vision and passion all the candidates showed for improving agriculture through technology, sustainability, and other innovations.

“Choosing only six winners from such an impressive field of applicants was not easy and we thank everyone who applied for their hard work,” Chapman said.

This is the third year G3 has presented the scholarship, in partnership with Agriculture in the Classroom Canada.

AITC Education Specialist Melissa Galay said the winners demonstrated convincing, well-researched visions for the future of agriculture.

“We are pleased to once again partner with G3 to offer these scholarships,” Galay said. “By supporting these students financially, G3 opens doors that may not have otherwise been opened.”

Each winner receives $4,000, and their high schools are awarded $1,000 each.
