Having fun staying safe at the Bike Rally Rodeo
As the sun shines and the clouds clear at this time of year, kids of all ages are going to be ripping around Prince Albert on their bikes—if they haven’t already. And for the third consecutive year, the Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) offered the Bike Rally Rodeo to offer some safety tips, while also having fun on a course.
Cst. Derek Simonson of the PAPS’ Community Policing Unit was walking the young cyclists through the safety course in the Art Hauser Centre parking lot, complete with cones and sidewalk chalk.
“Safety is a big part of it. Going into summer, we know kids are going to be on their bikes. We want to make sure they’re riding it safely, that their helmets are fitting properly, and that they understand some of the rules of the road and some skillsets,” Simonson said. “So, mom and dad know when they let them out, they’ll come back injury-free. That definitely makes the riding season a lot more fun, for sure.”
Of course, it wasn’t just the police service that was a part of the event. The Fire Department also oversaw parts of the course, as well as giving those curious a quick tour of one of their fire trucks.
