Prince Albert native Henry taken in first round of SJHL draft
The first round of the SJHL draft wrapped up this morning, and at the very end of it, a former Prince Albert Minor Hockey product may have found a new junior home. As it turns out, he won’t have to move too far to get to it either.
Dayne Henry, a defenseman from Prince Albert who spent last season with the Battlefords AAA Stars, was the final pick of the SJHL draft’s first round, 12th overall, by the Battlefords North Stars. The pick originally belonged to the Estevan Bruins.
Henry played a full season with the Prince Albert Pirates U15 AA team in 2019-20, then played three games in the COVID-shortened season at the end of 2020. This past season, he played 42 games with the AAA Stars, posting five goals and four assists along with 50 penalty minutes. He went on to play four playoff games for the team as well.
The SJHL draft will continue throughout the day. The draft of players born in 2006 will be a full six-round draft, while players born in 2007 will have two rounds in which to be picked.
