As council was inside City Hall Wednesday evening debating the future of the arena and aquatics centre project, someone lit a fire outside.
A burned shrub is visible next to the building on the southeast corner and one staff member was seen hauling a garden hose to suppress the fire.
Councillor Dennis Ogrodnick was forced to leave the meeting early, saying the smoke was affecting him.
Fire Chief Kris Olsen, who was in the meeting, said that several fires appeared to have been lit in the downtown area this evening and police were looking for suspects.
