LLRIB announce passing of respected Elder
It is with great sadness that the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) announced the loss of Elder Elizabeth Charles of Stanley Mission. She was 94.
In a release issued March 10, it was stated Charles was a pillar of the LLRIB and that she was known for her compassionate demeanour and love for children. She was a keen bird watcher, a collector of rocks and minerals, and loved spending time at her trapline cabin.
Charles was a band councillor from 1967 to 1974 and served on the Council of Elders for 23 years. She was a community health representative for 18 years.
“Elder Elizabeth Charles was a source of knowledge for the band, known for immense inner strength and compassion for everyone she met,” Chief Tammy Cook-Searson is quoted. “Personally, I will miss her counsel, mentorship, stories, great sense of humour and encouragement. Our prayers are with the Charles family and the community of Stanley Mission. We wish each member of the family healing and peace.”
