Whiskey Jacks fall in season-opener to Kradgers

May 27, 2022 | 12:22 PM

Prince Albert’s rugby team came so close to claiming victory as they opened the 2022 season earlier this week.

The team travelled to Max Clunie Field in Saskatoon on Wednesday to take on the Kradgers, a combined team of the Saskatoon Badgers and Krems in the North Sask. Rugby Union (NSRU).

It was a back-and-forth game with plenty of action and hitting from both sides of the pitch.

The Whiskey Jacks scored first with a penalty kick by Colm Cournane. The Kradgers then scored two unconverted tries to make it 10-3 by halftime.

Prince Albert came roaring back in the second half with two tries scored by Derek McKenzie to make it 15-10. The teams exchanged tries to make it 20-15.

However, in the last 10 minutes, Saskatoon scored two converted tries to clinch the game, 29-20.

The next game for the Whiskey Jacks is on June 1 at 8:00 p.m. against the Saskatoon Goats.
